*The park will charge $5 per person, ages 6 and up, during major special events. In 2019, those dates are: Living History Encampment, June 7 – 8; Military Encampment, August 24; and Traditional Holiday Celebration, December 6 – 7.

Frontier Skills Day - March 16, 2019 Adults are invited to take on various roles at the fort for a day. Be a hunter, blacksmith, trader, carpenter, laborer, or domestic. Space is limited; pre-registration required. Call (719) 383-5026 for information. Registration opens on January 2, 2019.

Trails and Rails Trips - May 11 - September 1, 2019 Volunteers narate excursions aboard Amtrak's Southwest Chief departing La Junta, Colorado on Saturdays and Sundays for day trips to Las Vegas, New Mexico. Make travel arrangements through Amtrak. For more information call (719) 383-5024. (Trips are subject to cancellation due to late running trains.)

Living History Encampment - June 7-8, 2019* The park’s main living history event for the year will feature historic interpretations of Santa Fe Trail traders, U.S. Army soldiers and Plains Indians. Experience the hey-day of the trail through ongoing demonstrations. Camps, set up near the fort, will be open for touring. For more information, call (719) 383-5023.

Old-Fashioned 4th - July 4, 2019
Enjoy an afternoon of patriotic festivities including black powder firing demonstrations, orations, games, and refreshments as the post celebrates Independence Day in 1840s-style.

Kids' Quarters - July 13, 2019 Children, ages 7 to 11, get to “step back in time” and experience the life of a fort employee, customer, or visitor. Pre-registration is required. Call (719) 383-5026 for an application or print one off from the park website starting May 1, 2019.

Military Encampment - August 24, 2019* Though a private trading post, the fort hosted several military expeditions and served as a supply depot during the War with Mexico. Soldiers and their camps highlight this living history event.

Traditional Holiday Celebration - December 6-7, 2019*
Witness the holiday pleasures and pastimes of the 1840s at an isolated trading post. Period games, foods, and festivities will enliven the fort. Reservations needed for the evening candlelight tours, phone (719) 383-5026 starting November 1, 2019.
